Proper winter storage helps protect a gasoline lawn mower from fuel deterioration, corrosion, moisture, and starting problems.
Here is a practical winterization procedure:
1. Clean the machine
Remove grass, mud, leaves, and debris from the cutting deck, chassis, and wheels or tracks.
2. Deal with the fuel system
Follow the engine manufacturer's instructions for either draining the fuel system or using an approved fuel stabilizer. Do not leave untreated gasoline in the tank for extended storage.
3. Check the engine oil
Inspect the oil and replace it if it is due for service.
4. Inspect the air filter
Clean or replace the filter if necessary.
5. Check the cutting blades
Inspect blades for damage and remove accumulated debris.
6. Protect metal components
Check exposed metal surfaces and apply suitable corrosion protection where appropriate.
7. Disconnect the battery
If the machine uses a battery, follow the manufacturer's instructions for storage and periodic charging.
8. Store the mower properly
Keep the machine in a dry, covered, ventilated location, away from moisture and ignition sources.
For LEGAO remote-controlled gasoline mowers, buyers should also inspect the remote controller, wiring, rubber tracks, and electrical starting system before seasonal storage.
Following these steps can make spring startup easier and help reduce unnecessary maintenance costs.
